“LIBERTY’S FULCRUM: Not all Truths are Self Evident” is a three-day conference at The Monticello Event & Conference Center on the Monticello Estate will cover the evolving concept and perception of liberty in America from the time of the Revolution from Britain into the new millennium.

 

Thomas Jefferson penned the famous words: “We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.”

 

The same principles were never applied to all, starting within Jefferson’s home. The hypocrisy of his ownership of slaves and other grave transgressions has been a long time documented. Jefferson was deeply flawed but brilliant thus a classic paradigm in which to start the examination our nation’s finding “liberty and justice for all.”

 

As a society we are always striving to understand and implement the balance between public and private liberties. There will always be a need to examine our countries values and laws; endeavoring to balance personal and public liberties. One concept that will be shown through out the seminars that America is a country that keeps striving to be the best version of it self.

 

The conference will examine liberty in America through three broad themes. On Friday there will be an analysis of how the dominate Judeo-Christian ethos of America currently intersects with health care, other religions and public institutions.

 

Saturday will discuss the implications of the current case just decided upon in the Supreme Court that warrants are needed in GPS tracking of suspects to how the store Target, and others, track your spending habits and alternative possible technological advancements which compromise our liberties.

 

Sunday, the final day of the conference, panel talks will run the gamut from slavery at founding father Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello to Woman’s Rights to evaluating Occupy Wall Street.

 

 

LOGO STATEMENT:

 

America is in constant conflict of who perceives what liberties are for whom. It is always debated as to which freedoms can and cannot be pursued. Our contradictions are not a negative. The conference “Liberty’s Fulcrum: Not All Truths are Self Evident” explores this dichotomy… as should my logo.
